New life for old mobiles in social economy pairing

Acceptable Enterprises Larne and Bryson Charitable Group recently celebrated the one year anniversary of a partnership to recycle mobile phones.

Bryson HouseOne of Northern Ireland’s oldest charities has joined together with one of the newest in a unique scheme to help vulnerable people across Northern Ireland. A year ago the charity Bryson House, now known as Bryson Charitable Group, partnered with Acceptable Enterprises (Larne) Ltd. in a mobile phone recycling project. One year on, dozens of discarded mobile phones donated to Bryson Charitable Group have been passed to AEL where they have been repaired, refurbished or recycled. Some of the refurbished phones were then donated to vulnerable people both at home and in the Third World while others were sold to generate revenue for the charity.

The charities welcome donations of discarded phones, particularly Nokia models, which AEL staff have been specially trained to refurbish.

Anyone wishing to donate a mobile phone to the scheme should contact Bryson Charitable Group on Icon of a telephone 028 9034 7731 or AEL on Icon of a telephone 028 2827 4992.

Freepost envelopes are also available for those wishing to post more than one mobile phone. Contact Bryson Charitable Group or visit www.brysonhouse.co.uk for details.
