Operation Soapbox: a new creative project for young people

Southbank Centre Small Logo

What do young people want to say to the world? As participants in a giant national conversation what questions would they ask? What messages would they send? And how would they choose to communicate their ideas? Inspired by those questions, we invite your group to be part of Operation Soapbox, a national project to explore how we express ourselves and how new ideas form.

  • What shall we do about global warming?
  • How can we be happy?
  • Why do I always fight with my sister?

Girl on soapboxFire up your creative sparks when you join young people all over the UK in this challenging project from Southbank Centre. We'll send you a wooden soapbox and a question like the ones above.

You investigate the question, create something new - a piece of music, a film, a poem, a plant - and send us back your findings.

We'll put your work on display on London's vibrant South Bank, as part of an exhibition in Summer 2008.

Operation soapbox

Operation Soapbox is:

Flexible - schedule it for as long or short as you like, to fit in with your regular activity, or start something brand new. Aimed at 8-14 year olds, the resources can also be adapted for different age groups, and could be worked on in an afternoon, or over the course of six months. It's up to you.

Supported - plan your sessions using our resource pack, which we'll send out before your box arrives.

Interactive - write about your group and find out what other young people all around the UK are doing at www.southbankcentre.co.uk/soapbox. Receive inspiration and motivation from other young people across the UK and guest artists, via a monthly ebulletin and interactive website.

Soapboxes are already on their way to groups and schools all over Britain, from the Shetland Islands to South London, and Omagh to Anglesey.
