Staff from Mencap’s Employment Service team were celebrating this week along with theNorth Down and Ards Institute, after the opening of a new job seekers club for people with learning disabilities in Newtownards.
The club will be based at North Down and Ards Institute and will provide employment support and training for people with learning disabilities in the North Down area.
The club is the result of a partnership between the two organisations.
Mencap pathway employment officers, who specialise in helping people with learning disabilities to find employment, will staff the new job club and the office.
Productive partnership
Speaking at the opening of the job club, Teresa Hazzard, employment service manager for Mencap said, "We are delighted to be working in partnership with the North Down and Ards Institute and we are grateful for their support in providing office space and access to ICT (Information Communications Technology) for the jobseekers".
Kieron O’Loan, head the faculty of community education from North Down and Ards Institute added his support saying, "I think this will be an excellent opportunity for interagency collaboration between NDAI and Mencap to empower individuals who have learning difficulties with the skills and abilities to progress to employment".
Mencap also runs jobs services in Newry and Mourne, Craigavon, Banbridge, Armagh and Dungannon, plus the Eastern Board, Foyle Trust and North West areas.
