Groundwork NI's quality of service is recognised in Marque of Commitment award.
Groundwork Northern Ireland, the environmental regeneration organisation, has been awarded the Commitment Marque from the UK Excellence Recognition Programme.
It is the first not for profit organisation in Northern Ireland to receive the Marque.
The award recognises Groundwork's commitment to quality of service in its activities.
The group uses regeneration projects as a focus for community building in neighbourhoods in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Mary McKee, director of Groundwork NI, said, "Much of our success in achieving a Commitment Marque is a result of strong partnerships with communities, robust relationships with funding bodies and the dedication and professionalism of a staff team who deliver quality projects."
John McGrath, deputy secretary at the Department of Social Development (DSD) presented the award saying, "Groundwork's award is well justified by the professionalism with which they support people living in disadvantaged areas.
"I hope the award will help to inspire other organisations to make a real commitment to business excellence".
Plans
Groundwork NI aims to gain the Achievement Marque by April 2006, and then to work towards the Investors in Excellence award.
Postive Steps
Mr McGrath said the challenge for the voluntary and community sector was to improve its effectiveness through modernisation, better planning and management.
He said that the Positive Steps report (published by the Task Force) recognised the vital work performed by the sector and that DSD would be leading on a series of actions to strengthen the relationship between government and organisations working on the ground.
