Newry and Mourne join Community Relations Week celebrations

Newry and Mourne District Council joined the celebrations in Belfast to mark the launch of Community Relations Week from 26 April to 2 May,  organised by the Community Relations Council.

Some 140 events are taking place in cities, towns and villages across Northern Ireland this week as local people take part in Community Relations Week. It includes events run by local councils, public bodies and community and voluntary sector organisations.

They are taking part in events during CR Week in Newry and Mourne and discussed their involvement at the launch which includes Hate Crime workshops, and a session on exploitation when they will be discussing how Fair Trade impacts on their lives.

Newry and Mourne District Council have organised several events:

The Cross Community Schools Quiz involving 16 schools from across the Newry and Mourne District will be held at Canal Court on Tuesday April 29.

Slavery in Newry is the topic of an information session organised by the council for its female staff to raise awareness about conditions for migrant workers, Tuesday 29 April at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre Newry.

The Good Relations Roadshow will visit community groups in Newry Monday 28 April, South Armagh on Wednesday 30 April and Kilkeel on Friday 2 May.

An exhibition at Bagenal’s Castle Newry on Thursday 1 May at 4.30pm highlights the Sights and Sounds project, a cross community project promoting social inclusion and involving children, young people and adults.

SELB Youth Service along with Newry and Mourne District Council has organised an Allsorts Youth Project evening on Thursday 1 May at 6pm in Newry Teacher’s Centre. Young people will meet and share experiences with others from different cultures and backgrounds.
