After moving into a Salvation Army hostel in Belfast, Noel discovered a joy and talent in painting.
Noel became involved with the Salvation Army in 1990 when he found himself homeless. He became a resident of Centenary House, the Salvation Amry hostel in Belfast.
He began painting seven years ago. Initially it was out of curiosity, but Noel discovered that he really enjoyed it and found it therapeutic.
He is quite modest about his ability but derives a large amount of pleasure from it.

Celebrity owners
During a visit to the centre by the Irish president, Mary McAleese, Noel quickly made a rather good painting of the centre and presented it to Ms McAleese, while the paint was still wet. He has a photo of this presentation in his room.
Calder Fountain
Noel uses the facilities at Calder Fountain which opened in 2001. It is attached to Centenary House and is home to 28 men. The facility offers care for those with mental or physical health problems. As a registered care unit, the centre can help people dealing with the effects of alcohol and drug addiction as well as the elderly.
Salvation Army at work
The Salvation Army provides practical, emotional and spiritual support to those in need through community activities, the Eventide Home in Holywood and three social centres in Belfast for homeless families, women and men.
Trained staff provide practical assistance and professional support to help with domestic violence, parenting skills, drug and alcohol addiction, budgeting skills, loneliness and despair.
