About the Child Brain Injury Trust (CBIT)
CBIT supports children, young people, families and professionals affected by childhood acquired brain injury. The charity was set up in 1991 by a group of health professionals although the charity does not adopt a medical approach. CBIT works to address the social impact of childhood acquired brain injury.CBIT is considered to be the UK’s leading voluntary organisation in relation to childhood acquired brain injury and we work hard to maintain our professional reputation.
Child and Family Support
The amount of information a family receives about their child’s brain injury will depend on where they live, which hospital their child was admitted to, how much the professionals they were in contact with know and what families have learn for themselves. Information shouldn’t be dependent on all of these things and CBIT works hard to ensure that parents aren’t left to figure it out alone.“I tried to find out about acquired brain injury but there was very little information about this anywhere.” (Parent) Child and Family Support provides tailored support to children and families affected by childhood acquired brain injury in order for them to live their lives to the full within their local community. CBIT has dedicated Child and Family Support projects in Northern Ireland, Scotland, the North East of England and as of April 2008, Oxfordshire. There is no time limit on the support that CBIT’s Child and Family Support can provide. It's about being available to families as and when they need it.
