The Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ) is an independent non-governmental organisation that seeks to secure the highest standards in the administration of justice in Northern Ireland by ensuring that the government complies with its responsibilities in international human rights law. CAJ has prioritised four key areas of work – criminal justice/emergency laws, equality, policing, and protection of human rights.
The CAJ legal adviser will be responsible for all the organisation’s legal advice and casework. The post-holder will also assist in the development and delivery of a litigation strategy for the organisation in one or more of its priority areas.
The successful candidate must be able to practise law in Northern Ireland, and have a minimum of one year post qualifying experience. They must have experience as a solicitor of advising and litigating in at least one of CAJ’s priority areas, and have experience of judicial review. A range of other essential and desirable criteria are outlined in the detailed job specification.
The starting salary for the post will be £27,492 (NJC - PO2 pt. 35) pensionable.
