Job title: Policy Analyst
Location:Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education, Aldersgate House,
13-19 University Road, Belfast.
Reporting to:Communications and Lobbying Manager
Member of:Communications and Lobbying Team
Key purpose:Develop and deliver the agreed communications and lobbying strategy geared to promote the growth of integrated education.
Main duties:
- Provide advice to the integrated education movement on public policy matters; - Pro-actively develop integrated education policies across a range of issues; - Develop a research policy for the Integrated movement; - Commission independent research according to an agreed work programme; - Prepare accessible and succinct policy statements, papers, submissions and reports with relevant statistics, evidence and costings for senior managers and Boards as necessary; - Consult both internally and externally in the preparation of public policy papers; - Assist the flow of information in all directions - up, down and across the organization - by sharing information held and also seeking information; - Compile data into easily digested summary reports for circulation to development workers, the Communications and Lobbying Team and the IEF; - Provide NICIE and IEF staff with factsand statistics to support their work; - Support the work of the lobbyists by providing them with relevant analysis to disseminate to politicians and policy makers; - Organise events such as seminars to provide information to as wide an audience as possible; - Respond to Government and other agencies in relation to policies and developments relevant to integrated education; - Develop and maintain relationships with officials in the Department of Education in Northern Ireland; - Keep abreast of existing policies and trends in education, peace studies and politics at Northern Ireland, UK and EU levels; - Draft in-depth articles for mainstream and specialist magazines; - Support the NICIE CEO and IEF Director with factual and statistical informaion, advice and guidance;
- Any other duties that may be required by management.
Essential Criteria:
- At least a Masters in a discipline such as education, public affairs, development or peace studies; - Evidence of undertaking social research; - Five years in the past eight years experience of supporting an advocacy organisation; - Demonstrate, through practical experience, a good understanding of how public policy is created, what influences it, structures of government, key players, etc; - Proven experience in analysing complex data and presenting it as accessible information; - Knowledge and access to relevant policy networks.
- Ability to work as a member of a small team - An understanding of the issues surrounding Integrated Education - Ability to meet the travel requirements necessary to fulfil the post
Desirable Criteria:
- Evidence of working for or with voluntary organisations;
- Interest in integrated education.
Terms and Conditions applicable
Salary range: NJC Scale points 37-40 £28,179 - £30,747
Essential car user's allowance and pension contributions
Holiday entitlements:25 days plus 11 Statutory holidays
Type of post:This is a fixed term appointment for 36 months.
