Ligoniel Improvement Association are recruiting a Communication and Information Worker
This is an innovative and community led initiative that will aim to support, encourage and strengthen individuals - and in some cases groups, organisation and networks - to increase their ability to contribute to the regeneration of Ligoniel through the Ligoniel Village Regeneration Empowerment Partnership (LVREP).
Project Description
To undertake a wide range of planning, co-ordinating and support activity aimed at maximising the impact of Ligoniel Community Empowerment Partnership, assisting it to develop and deliver its strategic plan while maintaining the involvement of all community organisations in the area.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To liaise with all local organisations/groups in order to gather information pertaining to the regeneration of the area.
- To oversee the design, publication, printing, marketing & distribution of a local news sheet.
- To take production and editorial responsibility for news sheet.
- To create and co-ordinate a volunteer base for the compilation of information within the area, relevant to the communications strategy.
- To co-ordinate training opportunities in communications and media issues for staff/volunteers/the community.
- To establish a network with other CEP’s for the dissemination of information.
- To develop working relationships with key media personnel to benefit press work on areas of interest to the community.
- To involve the local community as fully as possible through the dissemination of information to play a proactive role in community matters.
- To encourage the local community to engage with other communities by providing information on various cross-community opportunities.
- To contribute to the development of a communications strategy with key CEP personnel to ensure that the benefits of communication are fully explored and implemented.
- To market all community events and work through the development of relevant publicity material such as leaflets, press releases, etc.
- Explore and develop options available through the electronic medium to encourage involvement of the community thus leading to an increasingly proactive community.
- Assist in the development of a monitoring and evaluation system to ensure that the service is being developed fully.
- To report regularly to the CEP management group.
- To undertake any other reasonable duties which the post may require.
General Duties
- To promote the project through all mediums ie: flyers, press releases, interviews etc.
- To undertake job related training if required.
- To participate in applying for funding if and when applicable.
- To attend meetings and conferences etc as directed.
- To integrate the Community Empowerment Partnership Project – with the other work of the partners in the further development of the areas’ regeneration plans.
- To network, consult and further develop working relationships with all local groups, schools in order to provide good services within the area.
- To produce reports to management on a regular basis.
- To meet the objectives of the Ligoniel Village Regeneration Empowerment Partnership.
Personnel Specification
The personnel specification shows essential skills, abilities, knowledge and/or qualifications required to carry out the duties of this post. Attainments
Essential
- A qualification in journalism, multi-media studies or IT related field. Or At least 3 years experience in community development or co-ordinating the work of differing organisations or individuals.
- The ability to network with appropriate public, corporate and community sector bodies is essential.
- Demonstrate experience in DTP and web design/publishing.
Desirable
- Access to transport for work purposes or access to another form of transport that would allow the post holder to meet the travel requirements of the post.
- Good communication.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
Any person not meeting these specifications but who can demonstrate that he/she has 3 years experience in related work may be considered for the post.
Duration: Post is initially funded until end of September 2006.
If further funding is received the successful applicant will have to re-apply through an open recruitment process.
Salary: £19,185 (equivalent to NJC point 25)
Hours or work: 37.5 hours per week including evening and weekend work.
Holiday: 24 days per annum plus 11 statutory public holidays.
