As a result of investment from The Atlantic Philanthropies, NIPPA - The Early Years Organisation is about to embark on an exiting and innovative programme of work which will focus on improving the long term outcomes of young children in Ireland. The initial phase of the programme of work is twofold:

  1. developing evidence based on best practice for the early years of children through a comprehensive long term research and evaluation process
  2. establishing an integrated policy influence and dissemination function within the organisation.

NIPPA now wish to recruit the following post to support the implementation of this phase of the programme. The successful candidate will be joining an innovative, focused and forward looking organisation which believes in the value of working in partnership to make a significant contribution to lives of young children and help bring recognition to the importance of evidence based services for young children in Ireland.

Director of Early Years Programmes & Service Design

Salary Scale: AfC, Band 8 Range B, Point 37-44 (£37,881 - £50,733)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: To be negotiated
Tenure: Initially funding will be for a three year period – end December 2009

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of evidence based Early Years programmes. The post holder will apply and refine an approach to designing services for young children.

  1. A postgraduate level qualification (or equivalent) in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education.
  2. A minimum of five years previous experience (in the last ten years) in supporting the design, implementation and evaluation of Early Years programmes.
  3. A minimum of two years previous experience (in the last five years) in managing and supporting staff.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of evidence based practice in relation to the needs of young children and their families.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of the policy and practice context in relation to young children’s services.
  6. Demonstrate ability preparing and delivering written and oral reports, papers and publications.
  7. Demonstrate ability in reviewing academic and policy literature and synthesising key messages.
  8. A full current driving licence enabling the holder to drive in NI and have the use of a vehicle for official purposes or have access to a form of transport that will enable the candidate to meet the requirements of the post in full.
