You may be aware of the rapid expansion in services Contact Youth counselling services has undertaken in the last year. This is a very exciting time for agencies involved in the therapeutic support of young people their parents and communities.

We are inviting fellow travellers such as other counselling providers, community development and youth organisations with a commitment to the same value base, of social justice and easy access to relevant services for those most in need, to encourage any staff members you have to apply for some part time counselling opportunities with Contact Youth.

We have a number of interesting vacancies arising in the near future from the extension of Suicide Prevention Strategy “Protect Life” funding until at least August 2007.

We are very keen to work with other partner organisations already providing services under this strategy particularly in N&W Belfast to share therapeutic staff with us as we are stretched beyond capacity to sustain existing services from within our current staff team.

We believe excellent therapists exist in local community projects who may wish to increase their hours of work. Unfortunately most of this work is short term until the end of August but we are very hopeful of further extensions and eventually mainstreaming of this work into core budgets.

Essential qualifications for all these posts are a diploma in counselling 250 hours theory and practice and 150 hours clinically supervised practice.

The posts we are currently recruiting to are as follows:

• 24/7 Telephone Counselling Service Shift Opportunities

Telephone counsellors are paid at £22,293 -£24,708 PA (pro rata for part time).

From June we will move to create permanent shifts at a minimum of two shifts per week on the 24/7 telephone helpline service. We also plan to slightly alter the shift times to more fairly represent the call patterns to date. A detailed pro forma to indicate your interest and the pay structure involved is attached.

Shifts available are week days 9am-3pm, weekdays 8am-12noon and weekdays 12noon-4pm also night time 1am-8am.

• Sessional Counselling Opportunities

Sessional counsellors are paid for 2 hours at basic counsellor salary for every one client seen. Counsellor salary is £11.11 per hour £20,235 PA.

From time to time we have sessional counselling opportunities for work at various sites throughout NI. If you are interested in becoming a sessional counsellor with Contact Youth, please complete the pro forma attached with the number of sessions you would be available for and locations you wish to work from and return it to admin@contactyouth.org. An application pack will be circulated to you upon receipt of this form.

• Part Time SPP Post

This will be a 20 hour post and will be paid at the level of Part –Time counsellor £20,235-£24,708.

Due to the high level of demand for counselling and also the difficult nature of the work being undertaken by the North & West Suicide Prevention Project Team, we are recruiting one more part-time counsellor to provide counselling sessions throughout North and West Belfast.

This is a hugely exciting project, piloted until the end of August in N&W Belfast. However we are very hopeful of expansion well beyond to all of Belfast and eventually regionally as a mainstreamed service thereafter. We are open to job share possibilities with this post.

• Part Time Youthline Supervisor/Manager

These posts are paid at £ £20,895 -£22,293 PA (pro rata)

There are a number of posts available as Youthline Supervisor/Manager possibly on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 4-9pm. Each post is for eight hours and we are open to staffing this core element of the project with one, two, three or four people. These posts manage and oversee the work of our 24/7 suicide prevention helpline and support our volunteer counsellor team on shift. We are also interested in expanding our locum bank Youthline Supervisors who cover holidays and emergencies.
