Job description

Rasharkin area community health initaitaive are seeking to employ Part-Time Lay Health Worker

16 hours per week (one year contract may be extended subject to further funding)

Salary £5,574.00 per annum

Responsible to: Chairperson and/or Project Coordinator

Job Purpose: To provide local accessible and confidential health and social well being information. Develop positive attitudes to health and existing initiatives

Duties to include

1. To develop a health information resource and provide information in accessible formats.
2. To develop link with Local Farmer’s Group.
3. To liaise and seek advice with the community pharmacist with regard to health information sources.
4. To signpost groups and individuals to local healthcare providers.
5. To provide an ongoing identification of health information needs.
6. To assist Rasharkin Woman's Group to deliver a variety of future health initiatives.
7. Any other duties deemed necessary by Rasharkin Women's Group as being necessary for the benefit of the project.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

1. Good literacy and numeracy.
2. A clear understanding and commitment to the issues of confidentiality.
3. Working knowledge of word processing, database, spreadsheets and internet technology.
4. Access to transport.
5. Good communication skills.
6. Ability to work on own initiative.
7. Keen interest in health issues.

Desirable Criteria:

1. Knowledge of issues affecting rural communities.
2. 1-2 years involvement with community/voluntary groups.
