In 2006 Disability Action secured funding from Atlantic Philanthropies to enable it to establish a Centre on Human Rights for People with Disabilities. The Centre aims to foster a culture of Human Rights for disabled people throughout Northern Ireland through education and capacity building within the sector and the judicious use of lobbying, influencing and legal challenge.
Disability Action now wishes to appoint to the following position: Advocate (Ref AHRC/08)
The Advocate will undertake one to one work with people with disabilities and/or their families / carers / advocates. The post holder will utilise his/her personal skills and experiences to provide rights based advocacy and short-term support to people with disabilities. The Advocate will provide unbiased support, information and representation to enable and empower people with disabilities to express their views and needs in situations in which their human rights are being or potentially could be undermined or violated. She/he will also support and foster human rights based approaches to disability advocacy across Northern Ireland. Candidates must have the following:-
