The Consumer Council is the statutory voice of consumers in Northern Ireland. Our key aim is to promote and safeguard the interests of all consumers in Northern Ireland with specific legislative responsibility for energy, transport and food. We will also be assuming statutory responsibility for representing the interests of water and sewerage consumers with effect from April 2007.

The Consumer Council now wishes to appoint two Consumer Support Officers.

Consumer Support Officer – 2 positions
Salary: £16,183 - £20,311

Consumer Affairs section TCC/CSO/CA/07/01
Consumer Support section TCC/CSO/CS/07/01

One position is based within the Consumer Affairs section, where you will be required to provide support on policy and research issues regarding transport, food, credit and debt and other consumer issues. You must have experience of investigating and conducting a research project.

The second position is based within the Consumer Support section and will involve responding to complaints and enquiries as well as supporting campaigns and contributing to research. Experience must include following and implementing a complaints handling procedure.

For both positions, candidates should be educated to degree standard, or equivalent, and have a minimum of one year’s relevant experience in a customer facing role; OR have three A level passes or equivalent, in separate subjects, and have a minimum of three years’ relevant experience in a customer facing role; OR have a minimum of five GCSE’s/O levels at grade C or above in five subjects including English and Maths and five years’ relevant experience in a customer facing role.

Experience should also include building relationships with key stakeholders; compiling or analysing statistics and research; report writing, minute taking and delivering presentations.

The Consumer Council reserves the right to shortlist only those candidates who best fit the selection criteria. Criteria for these posts may be enhanced to facilitate shortlisting.
