The vision for A2B is to empower and enable the older people of Northern Ireland to maximise their take-up of benefit entitlements. The Training Officer (TO) will be A2B’s central point of contact on training matters. The TO is primarily responsible for organizing training events, managing external training resources, and encouraging participation in A2B’s training programmes. The TO is also responsible for maintaining relationships with network partners and providing them with materials such as train the trainer courses.

The TO will work with the Outreach team to design and deliver focus group sessions and pilot activities that will guide the design and development of A2B’s tools. This joint effort will help ensure a proper and flexible design, integrated functionality, and robust infrastructure to achieve the multiple demands upon the system. The TO will also deliver the initial technology trainings to advisors in order to gather feedback on the effectiveness of those trainings.

The TO will work with the Information Management team to identify online self-help needs, and convey that information to colleagues as appropriate to ensure that appropriate materials are developed to meet users’ needs. The TO will also work with the Advice Sector and Government agencies to establish an accreditation process for an older person advisor training course, and work in conjunction with colleagues to coordinate delivery of this course with participating partners in the sector.

As TO you will manage the 4 main objectives of the training element of this project:

  • Contribution to the development of a set of web-based tools that will screen older people for benefit eligibility
  • Development of outreach to raise awareness of the web-based tools
  • Development of training related to older people to help them and others (advisors, carers, relatives and friends) to use the new tools
  • Development and delivery of training for advisors and others who deal with older people
