More specifically this course includes:

  • Roles and responsibilties of an adviser
  • Communication skills required for an adviser (e.g. active listening, using appropriate language, non verbal cues, body language, and open/closed questioning.)
  • Advice - giving skills and techniques : (e.g. establishing rapport, problem diagnosis, information gathering, prioritising, explaining options, appropriate environment/room layout and being nonjudgemental)
  • Case management and legal requirements placed on an adviser
  • Provides an opportunity for learners to evaluate and analyse own advice giving skills and workplace practice

This course is essential for all welfare rights and housing advisers, hostel / residential workers and those working with community and residents groups who require a further understanding of the new legislation.
