Organised by the ICT Consortium NI, this workshop will offer participants an insight into the theory and practice behind accessibility. Participants will be able to gain hands-on experience of using assistive technologies.
What is accessibility?
"Accessibility is about designing your site so that more people can use your web site effectively in more situations"
However, web accessibility is based on far more than the implementation of standards and technological solutions. Accessibility embodies the idea that everyone has the right to information and everyone has the right to be included in society, regardless of disability, geographical location or language barriers.
Organisations within the voluntary and community sector work with some of the most excluded people in society. It is essential that we work to promote digital inclusion and ensure that our online content is as accessible as possible to all members of the community.
Feedback from participants at our conference in November 2004 indicated that accessibility was a pressing issue for their organisations. As a result, the ICT Consortium NI is organising a workshop to address many of the issues raised at the conference. The workshop will include:
