The partner organisations involved in Anti-Racist Workplace Week have put forward a seven point action plan for enterprises and organisations to promote equality in workplaces that are culturally diverse. The theme for Anti-Racist Workplace Week 2006 is INTEGRATION.

Effective integration involves:

  • Action to support Black and minority ethnic (including Traveller) employees, in particular migrant workers, to adapt to the workplace and to engage effectively with the local community.
  • Action to support all employees to develop the skills, knowledge and awareness to perform and engage effectively in culturally diverse workplaces.
  • Action to develop workplace policies, procedures and practices that take account of cultural and linguistic diversity, that promote full equality in practice, and that create a welcoming environment for Black and ethnic minority (including Traveller) employees.

The Equality Commission and the Social Partners are encouraging enterprises and organisations to take initiatives during the week that support effective integration in a context of cultural diversity, or to use the week to launch other initiatives to be developed throughout the year. A range of support materials and resources are available from the Equality Commission website. These include suggested activities and initiatives to support enterprises to take action during the week.
