The organisation was established in 1997 to address the needs arising from conflict related stress and trauma. Since then it has pioneered many community led programmes and services. These have included the delivery of a support service to those affected by the events of Bloody Sunday and the experience of political imprisonment.

The organisation has delivered a wide range of services and utilised a variety of skills and therapeutic approaches, from drama and oral history to counselling and healthy eating, as well as undertaking pioneering research into conflict related trauma. It has recently established a social economy enterprise called Cúnamh ICT which provides affordable database solutions. In the coming months Cúnamh will be launching a new website and hosting anniversary events.
