Based in Cardiff, John Bennett is the CEO and Managing Director of the Pack-IT Group. A social entrepreneur whose background prior to joining Pack-IT was print and media related, John is experienced in working both within the UK and internationally to help develop social enterprise and Social Firms for disabled and disadvantaged people and is a founding member of Social Firms Wales.
Pack-IT exists to employ disadvantaged people – an equal mix of able-bodied staff and colleagues with learning difficulties and physical disabilities – some of whom require 2:1 support, in a real business environment.
Since joining Pack-IT in 1994, John has successfully established Pack-IT as one of the UK’s leading Social Firms and social enterprises, specialising in supplying storage, distribution, mailing services and ecommerce for central and local government departments as well as blue chip and local business.
During his time at Pack-IT, the company has regularly generated an annual turnover in excess of £1m a year and currently employs a staff of 16.
John is busy growing Pack-IT into a global social enterprise brand. Pack-IT North – based in Wakefield - was opened in March 2006, and Pack-IT, in partnership with Kibble, started trading in Scotland in May 2007. Currently working closely with Social Firms Australia, it’s hoped that Pack-IT Melbourne will launch in 2008.
Pack-IT and John personally, have received numerous awards for the growth and diversification of the business and its commitment to a values based culture. John has worked with Government and is a member of the Welsh Assembly Government Social Enterprise Joint Working Group and Procurement Sub-Group.
John is an engaging speaker. Insightful and full of learning - based upon his experiences at the sharp end of business trading for a social purpose - he spoke recently to the Brisbane Social Enterprise Hub and made a presentation to Social Ventures Australia in Melbourne on social entrepreneurship and Social Firms development.
He has made similar presentations in:
John is currently Chairman and a director of Social Firms Wales, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a graduate of Common Purpose.
John Bennett will speak at WIN Conference Centre Newry during Enterprise week and as part of the Social Enterprise Newry & Mourne programme.
