INCORE, as part of its Diversity In Action project is organising a ’Training for Trainers’ residential. Northern Ireland, as in other parts of the UK, has been experiencing increased immigration of people from Eastern Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere. Most native born people have welcomed the new arrivals. However, others have responded with bias, harassment and violence. Immigrants are not the only group to experience bias, harassment and hate crimes. Members of the Traveller, Jewish, gay and lesbian community have also been targeted with hate.

In order to help these groups build capacity and develop the skills required to deal with bias and harassment, INCORE is hosting a 2-day residential to prepare two-person teams to conduct hate crime prevention workshops in their own communities. Participants will consist of community practitioners and district council community relations officers.

Steve Wessler from the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence (CPHV), an NGO based in the US, will facilitate the training. CPHV has conducted numerous Training-of-Trainers conferences across the United States. If you are interested and wish to apply for a place, please contact Roisin OHagan, INCORE on Icon of a telephone 028 7137 5523 or email Icon of an envelope r.ohagan@ulster.ac.uk. Application forms need to be returned by 28 February so it is advisable to apply soon, as places are limited. There is no charge for the training. Workshop participants will be responsible for their travel to and from Lusty Beg.
