Belfast Credit Union week will be formally launched by the Lord Mayor of Belfast City Council the Rt Honourable Wallace Browne at Linenhall Library on 2 May at 11.00am, with guest speakers from the Ulster Federation and Irish League of Credit Unions. Guests will also hear from the principles of Sydenham Infants, Mersey Street and St Matthews Primary Schools who have opened credit union savings accounts for their pupils through reinvesting profits from their healthy eating fruit cooperative programme.

This inaugural event has come about through the Fast Track Social Economy Programme supported by the European Community under Measure 3.1 of the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation and administered by Belfast Local Strategy Partnership.

Belfast Credit Union week is about,

  • Promoting and celebrating the work of the Credit Union movement in Belfast
  • Increasing awareness amongst the general public
  • Increasing membership
  • Increasing opportunities for business growth in the sector
  • Promoting Credit Union savings and loans
  • Raising government awareness of the value of the Credit Union movement
  • Promoting community regeneration
  • Promoting peace and reconciliation.

Launch guests can view the Credit Union exhibition van which will be situated at the gates of the city hall from 10.00am until 4.00pm.
