This year the company is delighted to welcome back Fabian Chyle whose Dance Therapy workshops were a huge success in 2007. Dance in a therapeutic context is in great demand and many community groups and health organisations already include it in their programme.
Co-Artistic Director of Echo Echo, Ursula Laeubli will be adding a new dimension to this year's sequence of events with her series on Dance/Movement in Education. The aim of this event is to make dance practice more accessible for anyone teaching or working with children and young people.

Dance/Movement Therapy with Fabian Chyle

Lecture Demonstration on Friday 30th May at 7.30pm
Workshop on Sunday 1st June at 10.30am

Everybody develops his/her unique way of movement and physical responses throughout his/her lifetime. Dance/Movement therapy works with the individual movement repertoire, in order to further the well being of the individual.
This lecture demonstration will introduce the major pioneers in the field of Dance/Movement Therapy and will explore its different key concepts in current practice.
The workshop, Choreographies of Self, will explore the dimension of choreography in dance/movement therapy and the ways to generate material based on personal experience and biography. Focusing on each personal biography, participants will develop small dances, which will be brought together - or contrasted with those of other participants.

Fabian Chyle MA, ADTR: Trained as a performer/choreographer at the ‘Theaterschool’, Amsterdam and later received his MA in Dance/Movement Therapy at Columbia College, Chicago. He has extensive experience of applying Dance Therapy in psychiatric inpatient settings. Since 2002 he has worked in prisons and closed psychiatric institutions on rehabilitation programs for serious offenders. He has designed different programmes focusing on anti-violence training through movement enhancing communication and social competence. He also works intensively with people with mental illness and dementia. (www.fabianchyle.de / www.tanzundtherapie.de)

Dance/Movement in Education with Ursula Laeubli

Lecture Demonstration on Friday 13th June at 7.30pm
Two workshops on Saturday 14th June and Saturday 21st June at 10.30am

Dance and Movement is at the core of any creative learning process and this has recently been recognised as an important element in the curriculum in schools. This Dance/Movement in Education series has been designed as training and support for anyone working with young people in a development or educational context. The lecture demonstration is an introduction to accessible dance practice and aims to break down the fear of dancing. The 2 full day workshops will provide the tools, exercises and simple practices to incorporate elements of movement and dance into daily practice. This leads to greater creativity and concentration in children, which will inform their learning in all subjects.

Ursula Laeubli, Co-Artistic Director of Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company: Co-founded Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company with Stephen Batts in 1991 and after touring Europe, the company relocated to Derry-Londonderry in 1997. As well as her extensive portfolio of performance work, Ursula teaches part-time on the University of Ulster Dance degree course and facilitates many dance and movement workshops in schools, community organisations and in Echo Echo’s own education and participation programme. She has a particular interest in developing training programmes for adults to integrate dance/movement into their daily lives and into their practice with children and young people.
