“Every five minutes someone’s number comes up”
This is just one shocking fact about stroke in the UK. Within Northern Ireland, stroke accounts for 10% of deaths. With approximately 4,500 strokes in Northern Ireland each year, stroke is also the biggest cause of disability in Northern Ireland.
Preventable
However, perhaps even more shocking is the fact that around 40% of strokes are preventable. Blood pressure is one easily identified, and modifiable, risk factor for stroke. GPs throughout Northern Ireland play a key role in reducing patients’ blood pressure, thus reducing their risk of stroke.
Seminar
With this in mind, we would like to invite GPs and Practice Nurses to attend a seminar entitled “Primary Prevention of Stroke: Local Issue, local concern, local people” on Monday 20th November 2006. This will be held at our premises at 21 Dublin Road, Belfast, from 6.30pm.
