Overview of the process of documentary production discussing the elements of film style and subjectivity. Interview techniques, narrative and documentary structure, editing, use of music, teamwork and ethics of documentary filmmaking. Illustrated with examples from the filmmakers' work.

Double Band Films producer/directors Dermot Lavery and Michael Hewitt have a long track record in producing documentaries. Credits include award winning films on football and drug cartels in Colombia (Escobar's Own Goal, C4), George Best's Body (2001) and We fought on D-Day (BBC 1 NI), Too Late for Names (BBC 1998), a poignant documentary about still births. Their first drama production, the award winning short film Still Life (1998), won many plaudits at festivals throughout the world and was picked up by several broadcasters
