The play emerged from the Mixed Links Initiative, which strives to celebrate and support mixed communities and contribute to the development of a more pluralist society in Northern Ireland.
One of the unique features of Stevie’s Big Game is that every performance will be different. Using forum theatre techniques, a character called The Joker will invite audiences to explore the issues raised in the play, by taking on the role of Stevie and suggesting ways in which he could resolve some of the concerns in his life – many of which are common across the community.
The community of Ballynafeigh encompasses a wide range of religious, social and ethnic backgrounds. Some of the issues which are examined in the play include provision of housing in mixed communities, mixed relationships, unemployment and cultural differences.
Mixed Links has created links between Ballynafeigh and other mixed communities in Northern Ireland, including Areema, Rasharkin, Mid-Springfield, Limavady, Cookstown, Armoy and Cloughmills.
Following the play, an educational publication will be made available by Ballynafeigh Community House which will provide contextual material and offer advice for other communities who may wish to produce a similar project that reflects their experiences and concerns.
Tickets are available from Ballynafeigh Community House, 283 Ormeau Road, Belfast or
028 9049 1161. Due to limited capacity in the venue, early booking is strongly advised.
