The Fund is aimed at organisations or networks undertaking 1-3 year projects which seek to raise awareness of:

  • International development issues
  • Our global interdependence
  • The need for international development
  • The progress that has been made in international development and that is possible.

The Fund is administered in Northern Ireland by the Centre for Global Education, which is organizing two briefing seminars for potential applicants to the Fund on 13 and 27 September 2006.   • International development issues
  • Our global interdependence
  • The need for international development
  • The progress that has been made in international development and that is possible.

Aim of Seminars

The workshops have the following aims:

  • To explain the Mini Grant Fund’s criteria;
  • To assist organisations in making an application;
  • To discuss previous successful and unsuccessful applications to the fund;
  • To increase understanding of development education.

It is strongly recommended that applicants attend both workshops.

Target Groups
The training seminars are targeted at the black and ethnic minority sector, youth groups, women’s organisations, trade unions and community or voluntary organizations with an interest or involvement in international development issues.

Seminar 1 What is Development Education?

Aim:

To provide applicants with an overview of development education practice and some of the key issues which the DFID Mini Grant Fund aims to promote.

The workshop will include:

  • An introduction to the values, skills, attitudes and methodologies in development education
  • Group work based on development education activities
  • An introduction to key development issues
  • Information on resources and support available from the Centre for Global Education

Seminar 2 The DFID Mini Grants Fund in Northern Ireland

Aim:

To outline the aims of the fund, the type of projects that are supported by the fund and the process involved in compiling an application. The workshop will include examples of successful and unsuccessful projects from previous years which may assist applications in 2006-07.
