Event
On 17 April 2008, new research commissioned by the Changing Ageing Partnership on children’s and young people’s perceptions of old age will be launched at 2.00pm (lunch from 12.45pm) in Seminar Room 1 in the Institute of Governance, 63 University Road, Belfast.
Researchers from the Institute of Child Care at Queen's University, led by Dr Laura Dunne, carried out the research which involved a systematic review of the literature. Previous research has demonstrated that children as young as three use ageist language and that pre-school children hold negative attitudes about older people.
Dr Dunne said
"By finding out how children and young people view older people, greater understanding and respect between generations can be promoted and hence more cohesive communities built."
