C&R techniques also give all staff involved a specific role and help avoid confusion and tend to instill confidence in staff and allow them to react to situations without using excessive force or experiencing undue anxiety.

The techniques taught are:

  • Nationally designed for use by staff of both sexes.
  • An addition to existing professional skills.
  • Techniques that do not preclude psychological methods of managing violence.
  • A method of resolving violence and reducing the risk of injury to all concerned.
  • A method of ensuring that only the minimum number of staff necessary to deal with an incident is used.
  • Quick, efficient and safe.
  • Used as a last resort.
