GrebeWetlands have always been regarded as mysterious, forbidding places - the liminal edge where land meets water. Witches, ghosts and other unmentionables like swamp creatures reside in wetlands. Lost souls wander bogs and ethereal ladies walk beside lakes. For human beings, it is a terrifying place. However, while we have long made it a point to fill in, drain, pollute and build over these precious places, the exact opposite can be said for other creatures who have embraced the life giving qualities of wetlands to make it their home. The RSPB is inviting you to face your fears and discover the delightful bird life that thrives in some of the richest habitats we have in Northern Ireland.

Join the RSPB on a guided tour of Portmore Lough. Booking is essential.
