Wetlands have always been regarded as mysterious, forbidding places - the liminal edge where land meets water. Witches, ghosts and other unmentionables like swamp creatures reside in wetlands. Lost souls wander bogs and ethereal ladies walk beside lakes. For human beings, it is a terrifying place. However, while we have long made it a point to fill in, drain, pollute and build over these precious places, the exact opposite can be said for other creatures who have embraced the life giving qualities of wetlands to make it their home. The RSPB is inviting you to face your fears and discover the delightful bird life that thrives in some of the richest habitats we have in Northern Ireland.

There are two guided viewings today, one in Fermanagh and one in Belfast.

The Fermanagh viewing starts from Enniskillen Agricultural College at 10.00am and you will see a wide variety of wildfowl, which might include tufted ducks, pochards, teals, mallards pintails, smews, scaups, whooper swans and Greenland white-fronted geese.

The Belfast viewing meets at Belfast Harbour Reserve Observation Room and you will see at least 50 species of waders and other wildfowl.

Booking is essential. Call Icon of a telephone 028 9049 1547 to reserve your place.
