Would you like to discuss with the media how they report on poverty issues? Would you like to hear how you can maximise coverage? Can you supply journalists with information that would be useful when reporting on poverty? If yes, come and participate in this workshop.
The Media Trust and the Society of Editors have been commissioned by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to produce guidance for the media to support good practice in reporting on poverty. The Foundation's programme, Public Interest in Poverty Issues, aims to secure and strengthen public support for eradicating poverty to ensure that current and future governments sustain action on UK poverty reduction.
The Media Trust is organising a series of workshops bringing together journalists, broadcasters and organisations working in the UK poverty field, with the aim of identifying issues in reporting poverty and practical ways these can be overcome. It will also enable voluntary groups to learn more about the barriers journalists face in covering stories.
Issues will be discussed in small groups and the findings of the workshops will provide initial content for the guidance to be produced by the Society of Editors.
Discussion topics will include:
