Event
On Sunday 6 November North Belfast will launch into a carnival atmosphere to celebrate two cultures in three languages.
New Lodge Arts and the Indian Community Centre are inviting everyone to come out and make this a remarkable day, when, for the first time ever, ‘Diwali’ - the Hindu festival of light and the Celtic Halloween festival ‘Samhain’ will be celebrated together.
On Clifton Street at 1.45pm the women of Corner House will show off their drumming skills, as they will lead the carnival to the waterworks. As Diwali is a celebration of light, the procession will carry 100 lanterns to the Waterworks where they will be placed in the water to float.
With both cultures having a fiery passion for music, dance and drama they have captured the best acts with Himmat Singh, Different Drums and Kila.
The most spectacular part of the evening will be a dance performance choreographed by local dancer Connor McGurk, bringing the Indian and Irish cultures together. In true Diwali style the night will end with a fireworks display.
Craft and food stalls will be available all day. Remember to wrap up warmly as it is November!
If you are part of group and wish to join in the celebrations please contact Claire Kelly at Indian Community Centre
