Promotional illustration for The NightingaleThe Nightingale may be a lesser known tale from children's favourite, Hans Christian Andersen, but it is every bit as magical as The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling or The Emperor's New Clothes.

Since 2005 is the bicentenary of the author's birth, what better way to join the celebrations than with a ticket to the Riverside Theatre's Christmas production of The Nightingale.

The performance comes from acclaimed international theatre group, Yellow Earth and features actors from the UK and Kong Hong (from the Chung Ying Theatre Company).

The show tells the story of a nightingale, brought to the court of the Chinese Emperor to lift his spirits. It is a charming, family event which integrates physical theatre and narrative to explore the themes of love, loyalty and freedom.

David Tse, producer of the show, said it was important to bring The Nightingale to Northern Ireland since the biggest ethnic group here is Asian and Yellow Earth is the only East Asian theatre company in the UK.

The show features fantastic visual effects, shadow puppetry, dance, video, fabulous costumes and a cleverly designed set.
